Verdict:Clockify is a dedicated time tracker: start a timer, tag the work, and report by client, project or person. People leave it when they want tracking inside a project tool, want to self-host or need the billing side handled elsewhere. Clockify's own free plan covers unlimited tracking for a small team, so check your user count before paying anything. OpenProject is the open-source option with a time tracking module, which suits a team that plans in the same place it logs hours. Vikunja is a self-hosted task manager with no billing features, a good fit when you care about tasks more than invoices. Plane is open source with a free plan, but it is an issue tracker first and lacks Clockify's timers and reports. ClickUp puts time tracking inside a full task app that also has a free plan; the trade-off is more configuration for a pure time log. Asana is a planning tool where time tracking is secondary, so accurate timers are weaker. Choose a dedicated tracker when reporting drives the work, and a project tool when you want plans and hours in one place.

Not ideal if

  • You rely on Clockify features or integrations that these tools do not replicate

Clockify today: Free (Unlimited time tracking; plan card says up to 5 users (FAQ says invite up to 4 people); reports cover a 1-month range; 30 API requests per hour; 3 webhooks; PDF export only; public projects only); paid from $3.99 per user/month, billed annually (Basic) (Clockify pricing, checked 2026-10-23).

Why people look for Clockify alternatives

Clockify's pricing page says the free plan is for up to 5 users, while its FAQ says to invite up to 4. Free reports cover one month, API calls are limited to 30 an hour, webhooks to 3, and export is PDF only. Timesheet approval needs Standard ($5.49 per seat annually), expenses and scheduling need Pro ($7.99), and SSO is Enterprise-only. Every active or invited user occupies a paid seat.

Platforms and license: Web, iOS, Android. Proprietary.

Asana

Compared with Clockify: Work management with a free plan and a list-and-board style. Time tracking is not its core, so Clockify still wins for accurate timers, but Asana fits teams that run projects first.
