Verdict:Leave LambdaTest if you mainly need to run browser tests in CI and do not want to pay for a hosted grid. LambdaTest, now marketed as TestMu AI, offers free allowances per product, such as 100 Automation minutes and 2 parallel tests, and paid tiers from $15 per month billed annually for its Virtual Live plan. Confirm current plans on its pricing page before you buy. If your tests are automated and your browsers can run on your own machines, Playwright is Apache-2.0 and free to run, and it covers Chromium, Firefox and WebKit. Selenium is also Apache-2.0 and suits teams that already run a WebDriver grid. WebdriverIO and TestCafe are MIT-licensed JavaScript frameworks with no fee. Choose BrowserStack only if you need hosted real devices and will pay, since its pricing page lists no free plan. The trade-off is effort. A free framework moves browser provisioning, parallel capacity and device coverage onto your team, and that cost shows up in CI minutes and maintenance rather than on an invoice.

LambdaTest today: Free (Free Forever per product, e.g. Automation 100 minutes with 2 parallel tests; Live 2-minute sessions and 5 real-device sessions monthly; Smart UI 2,000 screenshots; Accessibility 25 scans); paid from $15 per per month, billed annually (Virtual Live) (LambdaTest pricing, checked 2026-10-23).
LambdaTest, now branded TestMu AI, sells its products separately, so the bill depends on which you combine. The free tier gives 100 lifetime minutes of automation, not a monthly allowance. Visual regression with SmartUI starts at $199 per month and accessibility testing at $159. Each product has its own parallel-test and usage limits.
