Good fit if

  • You want a photo slideshow with music on Windows (Clipchamp is the pick)
  • You use an iPhone or Mac (iMovie is the pick)
  • You need a deck to present live (Google Slides is the pick)
  • You want a branded, template-driven look (Canva is the pick)

Not ideal if

  • You need paid-tier features, uptime guarantees or support that these free plans leave out

A slideshow maker has two possible meanings: a photo slideshow set to music, or a presentation deck. For photo slideshows, Clipchamp, Canva, CapCut, Kapwing and VEED all let you drop images on a timeline, add music and titles, and export a video. iMovie does the same on Apple devices with no payment. Clipchamp is the one to try first on Windows because its free plan exports at up to 1080p without a watermark. The browser tools often watermark free exports, so judge them by the preview and one test file. For presentations, Google Slides is free with a Google account and easy to share, while Slidev suits developers who write slides in Markdown and run them from Node.js. If you want a deck you can export as a video file, you will need one of the video editors instead. Photo count and music rights matter more than the tool: royalty-free tracks built into an editor are safer than a song you drop in, especially if you plan to post publicly. Keep each photo on screen for two to four seconds and avoid stacking transitions.
