Verdict:Leave Clipchamp when you need more than a template-driven web editor, or when you do not use Microsoft 365. Clipchamp's free plan exports up to 1080p with no watermark, but premium stock, filters, effects and the brand kit are locked, and the premium features are bundled with Microsoft 365 Personal and Family rather than sold separately. For free desktop editing, OpenShot and Shotcut both work offline with no watermark or project limits. OpenShot is the simpler choice for basic cuts and titles, and Shotcut handles more formats. Kdenlive is a multitrack editor under GPL-3.0 that suits longer projects on Windows, macOS and Linux. DaVinci Resolve's free version goes further, with HDR grading and Ultra HD export, and its Studio edition was on sale at $236 when checked, but the install is heavy and the learning curve is steep. If your work is interview or talking-head video, Descript is different: its free plan gives 60 media minutes a month, and it edits by text transcript. Its Hobbyist plan is $16 a month on annual billing. Stay with Clipchamp for quick browser edits inside Microsoft 365. Leave it when you hit the 1080p or stock limits.
