Verdict:Synthesia turns a script into a video with an AI presenter, and people leave it for a cheaper plan, a face they can make themselves, or narration without a presenter. Its Basic plan is free with 500 credits a month, about 10 minutes of video or dubbing, watermarked. Starter is $18 a month billed yearly or $29 monthly. HeyGen is the nearest like-for-like tool, with three free one-minute videos a month and Creator at $24 a month on annual billing, so the choice comes down to how many minutes you need. Descript suits people who already have footage and want to edit it by text rather than generate a presenter from a script. ElevenLabs gives a free voice allowance of 10,000 credits, a useful start when only the narration must be generated. Kokoro and Piper are self-run speech tools with no presenter at all, one under Apache-2.0 and one under GPL-3.0. If your video needs a face, start with HeyGen or Synthesia. If it needs only a voice, pick a speech tool and build the visuals separately.
