Verdict:HeyGen makes talking-presenter videos from text, and people leave it for a bigger free allowance, a cheaper voice, or a different kind of video. Its free plan allows three watermarked videos a month, each up to one minute, with one custom avatar. The Creator plan is $29 a month, or $24 on annual billing. Synthesia is the closest swap: its free Basic plan gives 500 credits a month, about 10 minutes of video or dubbing, and the Starter plan is $18 a month billed yearly. Descript suits a team with recorded footage to edit by text, not a script to render into an avatar. ElevenLabs and Kokoro cover the voice part alone: ElevenLabs has a free plan with 10,000 credits, and Kokoro is a free open-weight model you run yourself. Piper is a local GPL-3.0 engine that produces offline voiceover. None of the voice tools make a presenter, so you pick them when the picture is already made. Decide first whether you need a face on screen or only a voice.
