QuickBooks Online vs Xero compared: free plans, prices, platforms and licenses from official pages checked October 22, 2026.

Verdict:QuickBooks Online and Xero should be compared by user access and transaction limits before headline price. QuickBooks lists a Free plan, but it is for one business user, has no accountant access and limits invoice sending unless you qualify for and enable QuickBooks Payments. Simple Start is listed at $38 per month and still has one business user, while adding accountant access and paid bookkeeping features. Xero's Early plan is $27 per month with no per-user license fees, but its invoice and bill allowances can make the entry plan unsuitable for a busy business. A lower monthly price is useful only if the plan covers your actual workload. Both products offer bank-connected bookkeeping; inventory is also plan-dependent, with QuickBooks listing it in Plus and Xero offering Inventory Plus as an optional add-on on eligible plans. For a solo operator testing basic bookkeeping, QuickBooks Free provides a low-commitment starting point. For a business expecting several people to log in, Xero's user-pricing model deserves attention. Compare the next tier if invoice volume or inventory matters.
