Verdict:Leave Gamma when the free credits run out and you do not want to pay $8 a month for Plus. Gamma's free plan starts with 400 credits that do not refresh, so heavy use ends quickly. If you still want the quick-draft feel, Canva is the nearest mainstream option, with templates and a free plan, though you should check what its free plan limits. Google Slides is the practical choice for teams: free, shared editing, no credit meter, and every collaborator already knows it. LibreOffice Impress works offline and costs nothing, which matters for schools and locked-down machines. Slidev is for developers who would rather write slides in Markdown and keep them in git. Prezi is a different format, built around zooming across one big canvas, and is worth a look only if you like that style. The trade-off is effort. Gamma turns a prompt into a draft deck in one step; each alternative here asks you to build or restyle slides yourself, or lean on its own AI add-ons that sit on paid plans. A common pattern is to keep Gamma for first drafts on the free credits and finish in Google Slides or PowerPoint-style editors. Leave fully if your decks are plain and recurring.

LibreOffice 25.8: New features

By LibreOffice - The Document Foundation ·

Good fit if

  • You want a free editor your whole team already knows (Google Slides is the pick)
  • You present offline or on a locked-down laptop (LibreOffice is the pick)
  • You are a developer who writes slides in Markdown (Slidev is the pick)
  • You want designed templates over AI drafts (Canva is the pick)

Not ideal if

  • You rely on Gamma features or integrations that these tools do not replicate

Gamma today: Free (Free plan with a one-time allotment of 400 AI credits (Gamma help center)); paid from $8 per user/month, billed annually (Plus; $10 billed monthly) (Gamma pricing, checked 2026-10-23).

Why people look for Gamma alternatives

Gamma's Free plan gives a one-time 400 credits that do not refresh monthly, and credits cap at 2,000 at once. Paid plans refill 1,000 credits a month on Plus, 4,000 on Pro and 20,000 on Ultra, and unused credits roll over only up to twice the plan size. Credit cost varies by action, AI model and length, so usage is hard to predict. Subscriptions are per user, Plus is $8 per user per month billed annually, and the Made with Gamma badge goes away only on paid plans.

Google Slides

Compared with Gamma: Free with a Google account, runs in the browser and on phones, with real-time sharing. You lose Gamma's one-prompt AI deck generation, but gain familiar editing, no credit meter and no limit on how many decks you make.

Price: Free (Free for anyone with a Google account (storage counts against the account quota)) (Google Slides pricing, checked 2026-10-23).

Platforms and license: Web, iOS, Android. Proprietary.

Best for: Hand-built decks with team editing.

LibreOffice

Compared with Gamma: Free MPL-licensed suite with Impress for slides, working offline on Windows, macOS and Linux. There is no AI deck generator, so you build every slide yourself, but nothing expires like Gamma's one-time 400 credits.

Price: Free (download and use at no cost per its site) (LibreOffice pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Windows, macOS, Linux. MPL-2.0 (open source).

Best for: Offline decks with no account.

Worth knowing: Desktop suite of Writer, Calc, Impress, Draw, Base and Math; it has no built-in cloud storage or email.

Slidev

Compared with Gamma: MIT-licensed, Markdown-based slides that export to PDF, PNG and PPTX. It needs Node.js and comfort with code, which is the opposite of Gamma's prompt-first flow, but it is free and suits technical talks.

Price: Free (Free and open source; slides are written in Markdown and run on Node.js) (Slidev pricing, checked 2026-10-23).

Platforms and license: Web, Windows, macOS, Linux. MIT (open source).

Project activity: 49.2k GitHub stars · latest release v53.0.0 (Sep 16, 2026) · last commit Oct 23, 2026

Best for: Developer talks written in Markdown.

Worth knowing: Developer-oriented: slides are written in Markdown and served from a local dev server, so it needs Node.js.

Canva

Compared with Gamma: Free plan exists, with templates, a large design library and presentation mode. It is more design-led than Gamma, so check which features the free plan locks.

Price: Free (Free plan available; see the pricing page for its current limits) (Canva pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Web, Windows, macOS, iOS, Android. Proprietary.

Best for: Visually styled decks and brand kits.

Prezi

Compared with Gamma: Free Basic plan reported by third parties, with zoomable non-linear presentations. A different style from Gamma's card layout, and Prezi's own pricing page showed no readable numbers, so check limits first.

Price: Free (Free plan: presentations carry a Prezi watermark, up to 14 slides; PDF and PowerPoint export are on paid plans) (Prezi pricing, checked 2026-10-24).

Platforms and license: Web. Proprietary.

Best for: Zooming, non-linear presentations.

Beautiful.ai

Compared with Gamma: Pro is $14.50 per month billed annually against Gamma Plus at $8, and free plans exist only for students, not for everyone. It is a slide-design tool you pay for from your first deck.

Price: Paid from $14.5 per month, billed annually (Pro) (Beautiful.ai pricing, checked 2026-10-23).
