Good fit if

  • You are solo or a pair and want to start today (HubSpot CRM is the pick)
  • You have three users and live in Zoho already (Zoho CRM is the pick)
  • You have more than five users and can host a server (SuiteCRM is the pick)
  • You want a modern interface and are comfortable with Docker (Twenty is the pick)

Not ideal if

  • You need paid-tier features, uptime guarantees or support that these free plans leave out

A free CRM is usually free in one of two ways, and the difference decides which one you should pick. Hosted products such as HubSpot and Zoho give you a polished app at no charge but cap the number of users or contacts, so the free plan is really a trial of how big you can get before paying. Open-source products such as SuiteCRM, EspoCRM and Twenty have no seat cap at all, but you run the server, install updates and keep backups, and that time is the price. If you are one to three people tracking a few hundred leads, a hosted free plan is almost always the right start because you can be working in an afternoon. If you have a team of ten, a mid-sized contact list and someone who is comfortable with Docker or a PHP stack, self-hosting avoids the per-seat step that arrives the day you add a fourth person. Whichever route you take, test an export before you load real contacts, because moving customers between CRMs is the part vendors make slow. This list covers eight tools with free plans or free code, with the limit that applies to each, so you can see where the free ride ends before you commit your pipeline to it.

HubSpot CRM

The easiest hosted start: a hosted CRM that works out of the box, but the free plan stops at 2 users and 1,000 contacts. Starter at $7 a seat is the next step, so a small team hits the wall quickly.

Price: Free (2 users, 1,000 contacts, no time limit); paid from $7 per seat/month (Starter) (HubSpot CRM pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Web browser. Proprietary SaaS.

Best for: Solo founders and two-person sales teams.

Price: Free (3 users) (Zoho CRM pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Web browser. Proprietary SaaS.
