Verdict:HubSpot's free CRM gives you 2 users and 1,000 contacts for no time limit, so many people only start looking elsewhere when they hit those limits or the paid marketing tiers. A few separate decisions are tangled together here. For the CRM itself, Twenty is the closest modern open-source option and costs nothing to self-host, while EspoCRM and SuiteCRM are older, steadier choices with more configuration. If you outgrow HubSpot's free limits and want hosted software, Zoho CRM is free for 3 users and gives you a bit more room. The marketing side is separate: Mautic is a real open-source marketing automation platform, but it takes server administration and does not include the CRM, so you would be running two systems. The trade-off is that HubSpot's value is the integration of contacts, email, forms, reports and support in one login. Replacing it with open-source parts saves licence fees but costs setup time, and we did not test migration of existing HubSpot data. Leave if you pay for HubSpot seats mainly to hold contacts and deals; stay if marketing automation and reporting across teams is why you bought it.

  • You mainly need marketing automation (Mautic is the pick)
  • You want CRM plus invoicing in one system (Odoo is the pick)
  • You want to customize your data model (EspoCRM is the pick)

Not ideal if

  • You rely on HubSpot CRM features or integrations that these tools do not replicate

HubSpot CRM today: Free (2 users, 1,000 contacts, no time limit); paid from $7 per seat/month (Starter) (HubSpot CRM pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Why people look for HubSpot CRM alternatives

HubSpot's free CRM covers 2 users and 1,000 contacts, and Starter begins at $7 per seat per month, with a $20 per seat figure shown beside it. The CRM pricing page lists prices only for Free and Starter, so the step up to Professional or Enterprise cannot be budgeted from it. Cost is tied to seats, so every person you add raises the bill.

Twenty

Compared with HubSpot CRM: Open-source CRM under AGPL-3.0 that you can self-host free, or use Cloud Pro at $9 per user monthly billed yearly. It lacks HubSpot's marketing hub and email tools, but is far lighter and cheaper for a pure CRM.

Price: Free (self-host the open-source core for free); paid from $9 per user/month, billed yearly (Cloud Pro) (Twenty pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Web browser, Self-hosted. AGPL-3.0 (some files under a commercial Enterprise license) (open source).

Project activity: 59.9k GitHub stars · latest release twenty/v2.52.0 (Oct 27, 2026) · last commit Oct 28, 2026

Best for: Modern open-source CRM.

SuiteCRM

Compared with HubSpot CRM: Free AGPL-3.0 download; managed hosting from $50 a month. It is a full sales CRM with workflows, but looks dated and has no built-in marketing suite like HubSpot, and you handle setup.

Price: Free (free open-source download; you pay for hosting and support); paid from £50 per month (fully managed hosting, from) (SuiteCRM pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Web browser, Self-hosted. AGPL-3.0 (open source).

Project activity: 5.8k GitHub stars · latest release v7.15.2 (Jul 31, 2026) · last commit Oct 23, 2026

Best for: Self-hosters wanting classic CRM depth.

Worth knowing: Licence checked on the SuiteCRM 7 repo; SuiteCRM 8 is a separate repo.

EspoCRM

Compared with HubSpot CRM: Free self-hosted AGPL-3.0, or Cloud Basic at $15 per user monthly with a 3-user minimum. A lighter CRM than HubSpot, with no integrated marketing tools but easier to customize.

Price: Free (free self-hosted download); paid from $15 per user/month (Cloud Basic, 3-user minimum, billed per 6 months or 1 year) (EspoCRM pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Web browser, Self-hosted. AGPL-3.0 (open source).

Project activity: 3.5k GitHub stars · latest release 10.0.11 (Oct 23, 2026) · last commit Oct 27, 2026

Best for: Small teams that customize entities.

Worth knowing: 30-day free trial for cloud.

Zoho CRM

Compared with HubSpot CRM: Free for 3 users. HubSpot's free CRM allows 2 users and 1,000 contacts. Zoho has more depth on sales process and customization, though its interface is busier and marketing is a separate product.

Price: Free (3 users) (Zoho CRM pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Web browser. Proprietary SaaS.

Best for: Small sales teams past the free HubSpot limits.

Mautic

Compared with HubSpot CRM: Free open-source (GPL-3.0) marketing automation, the part of HubSpot that costs the most. It does not replace the CRM, so pair it with Twenty or EspoCRM, and expect to run the server yourself.

Price: Free (free open-source software; hosted version has a 14-day trial) (Mautic pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Web browser, Self-hosted. GPL-3.0 (open source).

Project activity: 10.9k GitHub stars · latest release 7.2.2 (Oct 26, 2026) · last commit Oct 27, 2026

Best for: Marketing automation without HubSpot fees.

Worth knowing: No hosted prices shown on the site.

Odoo

Compared with HubSpot CRM: Community edition is LGPL-3.0, and Odoo Online has a One App Free plan with unlimited users. It is a business suite, not a CRM alone, so setup is broader than HubSpot's, but it includes invoicing and inventory.

Price: Free (One App Free plan on Odoo Online, unlimited users) (Odoo pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Web browser, Self-hosted. LGPL-3.0 (Community edition) (open source).

Project activity: 55.4k GitHub stars · last commit Oct 28, 2026

Best for: CRM plus invoicing and operations.

Salesforce

Compared with HubSpot CRM: A Free Suite tier is listed and Starter Suite is $25 per user monthly, against HubSpot Starter at $7 per seat. A far larger ecosystem, with more setup and a higher entry price.

Price: Free (Free Suite tier listed in the plan comparison); paid from $25 per user/month (Starter Suite, billed monthly or annually) (Salesforce pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

monday.com

Compared with HubSpot CRM: Free for 2 seats, 3 boards and 3 docs; paid from $9 per seat monthly billed annually with a 3-seat minimum. A work-management platform with CRM on top rather than a CRM first.

Price: Free (up to 2 seats, 3 boards and 3 docs); paid from $9 per seat/month, billed annually, 3-seat minimum for paid plans (monday.com pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

ActiveCampaign

Compared with HubSpot CRM: Starter, Plus, Pro and Enterprise plans are priced by contact count, with a 14-day trial, a 30-day money-back guarantee and no free plan. Automation first, where HubSpot is CRM first.

Price: See pricing page (ActiveCampaign pricing, checked 2026-10-22).
