Verdict:SAP publishes no price: it sells through partners on a confidential price list, so ask for a quote. That alone is a reason to compare, because you cannot budget before you talk to a salesperson. Leave SAP if your company is small enough that implementation costs more than the licenses. ERPNext and Odoo are the first two to try. ERPNext is GPL-3.0 and free to self-host, and Odoo's One App Free plan gives you one app for unlimited users, with the Community edition under LGPL-3.0. Dolibarr suits freelancers and very small teams that want invoices, stock and a CRM on a cheap PHP server. Tryton is for technical teams that want a modular, free system and will pay a service partner. If you want a vendor and a number, Microsoft lists Business Central at $80 per user a month for Essentials and $110 for Premium. NetSuite is the nearest to SAP in scope but also hides its price. The trade-off is plain: open-source ERPs give you control and no license fee but you carry hosting, upgrades, backups and the customization work. SAP's cost buys a partner network and industry depth that these cannot match for a large company. Stay with SAP if you run complex manufacturing or multi-country finance.

SAP's own news center says Business Suite 7 mainstream maintenance runs through December 31, 2027, followed by optional extended maintenance through December 31, 2030. When that ends, SAP's reselling and support agreements for third-party databases and Java expire, and SAP will no longer handle database-specific support tickets for those legacy systems. Companies on older SAP installs therefore face a fixed migration deadline, which is a natural moment to price out other ERP systems.
