Verdict:People leave Voicemod for three reasons: the subscription, the lifetime price confusion, and wanting different kinds of voices. Voicemod's Pro monthly and lifetime prices change, so check the in-app checkout before deciding. For a free swap on Windows, Clownfish is the plain option. It changes your voice for every app that uses the microphone and costs nothing, but it will not give you the AI character voices or the big soundboard catalogue. If you want AI voices, Voice.ai has a free tier of 5,000 credits a month and a desktop app, while w-okada's voice changer is MIT-licensed and free of any meter, at the price of installing models and fiddling with settings. ElevenLabs is a different tool: it converts recordings rather than your live microphone, so use it for videos and voiceovers, not for gaming sessions. MorphVOX Pro is the pay-once option at $39.99 on the vendor store. The trade-off is polish against cost. Voicemod's soundboard and one-click voices are easy; the free options need more setup or give you fewer effects. Stay if you stream daily and use the soundboard; leave if you only change your voice now and then.

Voicemod today: Free (Site title calls it a free real-time voice changer for PC and Mac; the page checked did not show plan limits) (Voicemod pricing, checked 2026-10-23).
Voicemod markets itself as a free real-time voice changer for PC and Mac, but its pricing page lists no plans or prices, so you cannot see what the free version leaves out or what an upgrade costs before installing it. Its home page describes mobile use only through the Voicemod Key Pocket accessory, and names PC and Mac rather than a full list of operating systems, which matters if you are on Linux.
Compared with Voicemod: Free Windows voice changer that works system-wide in Discord, Skype and similar apps. It has no AI voices or Voicemod-style soundboard library, but it costs nothing and includes a sound player and VST support.

Platforms and license: Windows. Free software with a permissive licence text (copying, modification and redistribution allowed).

Compared with Voicemod: MIT-licensed AI real-time voice conversion that runs on your machine. Setup is much harder than Voicemod, and you must pick and download models, but there is no subscription and you control the voices.
