If Voicemod will not install on your Mac, the likely reason is its requirements, not a missing Mac version. Voicemod's support page asks for macOS Ventura 13 or later and an AVX2 processor. The lowest-requirement alternatives are Supertone Shift (macOS 10.14 and up, with a free plan) and Voxal. The open-source VCClient suits people who want AI voices and can set them up themselves.
Voicemod's Mac page says it is up and running on Macs, labels the release a beta, and says the soundboard clips are included. It lists Zoom, Skype, FaceTime and Discord as uses.
The catch is compatibility. Voicemod's system requirements page asks for macOS Ventura 13 or later and a processor with AVX2, and warns that without it the Mac is "not compatible." It lists iMac 2017 and later, MacBook Air 2018 and later, MacBook Pro 2017 and later, Mac mini 2018 and later, Mac Pro 2019 and later, and every Mac Studio.
If your Mac is on that list and you only want a different price or feature set, read on. If it is older, the alternatives below are what matters.
Supertone Shift is a voice changer for macOS and Windows. According to the Shift page at Antinode Audio, it lists macOS 10.14 and above as the requirement and is offered as v2.1. That is a far lower floor than Voicemod's Ventura 13.
The page lists a Free plan at $0 with "100+ voices" on monthly credits. Starter is $3.99 a month, Pro is $14.99 a month, and a Perpetual option is $149.99 per voice. Confirm Apple silicon support and your chat app with Antinode before paying, and test the free plan first.
Voxal is an NCH Software voice changer for Windows and Mac. According to its product page, it offers preset effects such as robot, girl, boy, alien and echo, custom effects, saved effect chains and background sound effects. It can apply effects in real time from a microphone and can also process existing audio files.
A free version is available for non-commercial home use with no signup. Check NCH's page for what the free version includes on Mac, what the paid version costs and whether you need a virtual audio device. Voxal fits someone who wants simple effects and no AI voices. It is not a soundboard-first tool like Voicemod.
VCClient is the client from the w-okada voice changer project. Its GitHub page lists Windows and Apple silicon (M1) Mac builds and does not mention Intel Macs. The latest release listed is v.2.2.2-beta.
Setup takes effort. The page says the Mac build is not signed by the developer, so macOS shows a warning, and you open it by Control-clicking the icon. The AI models are downloaded separately. Choose this only if you are comfortable with that, and see our open-source voice changer page for context.
| Tool | macOS requirement | Free option | Paid price | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Voicemod | Ventura 13 or later, AVX2 | Free download (beta) | No plan prices listed | Soundboard included |
| Supertone Shift | 10.14 and above | $0 plan, monthly credits | Starter $3.99 a month | 100+ voices on Free |
| Voxal | Mac supported, version not clear | Free for home use | Not stated | Preset effects |
| VCClient | Apple silicon only | Free beta | None | Unsigned, models separate |
You have an older Mac that Voicemod rejects. Start with Supertone Shift's free plan, since its page lists macOS 10.14 and above, and keep Voxal as a second try.
You want a free voice changer for Discord with minimal fuss. Try Voxal for simple effects, or the free plan of Supertone Shift. Our free voice changer guide covers more options.
You want to build your own voices on an M-series Mac. Look at VCClient, and read about free AI voice cloning options first so you know what the models require.
No tool was installed or run, so voice quality, latency and Discord behavior on macOS are not judged. Voicemod's pricing page lists no plan prices. Apple silicon support is not stated for Supertone Shift or Voxal. Community opinion from Reddit was not collected.
Yes. Voicemod's Mac page says it is up and running on Macs and includes the soundboard. Its support page requires macOS Ventura 13 or later and a processor with AVX2, and lists iMac 2017 and later and MacBook Air 2018 and later.
Supertone Shift has a $0 plan with 100+ voices on monthly credits, and runs on macOS 10.14 and up per its page. Voxal is free for non-commercial home use, according to NCH Software's product page. VCClient is free to download but is a beta and needs setup. Free tiers have limits, so test them with your own microphone.
Supertone Shift lists macOS 10.14 and above, and Voxal lists Mac support on its NCH page. Voicemod needs macOS Ventura 13 or later, so an older Mac is the usual reason to look elsewhere. Check each vendor's page for your exact macOS version.
Voicemod installs a virtual microphone, and you pick it as the input device in Discord or the game. Other tools may need a virtual audio driver such as BlackHole, which passes audio between apps on macOS. Check each tool's own instructions.
VCClient from w-okada is on GitHub and offers an Apple silicon Mac build, though it is a beta, unsigned, and needs you to download AI models. Intel Macs are not listed there. It suits tinkerers, not people who want a one-click install.
Voicemod's Mac page says its soundboard clips are included on Mac. The alternatives here are described by their vendors as voice changers and effect tools, and none lists a soundboard like Voicemod's in the pages cited, so if the soundboard is why you use Voicemod, check Voicemod's system requirements before looking elsewhere.

Voicemod's support, Mac and pricing pages, the Supertone Shift page at Antinode Audio, Voxal's NCH page, the VCClient GitHub page and the BlackHole page were opened on 2026-10-26. Voice.ai was dropped because its official pages do not state Mac support. A June 2026 vendor article was reviewed for gaps. No Reddit threads were used, because Reddit pages were unavailable to our research tool.
