Verdict:pCloud's selling point is the lifetime plan: the pricing page shows Premium 500 GB at $219 one-time and Premium Plus 2 TB at $499, with 10 TB at $1,499. Check the site for the free storage amount. Lifetime plans are a bet that the company stays around, so the main reason to leave is risk or that you do not want to prepay hundreds of dollars. Nextcloud is the biggest self-hosted option: it is AGPL-3.0, free to run, and has apps for desktop and phone, but you handle updates and backups. Seafile is lighter and focuses on syncing, with Professional free for 3 users. Syncthing removes the cloud altogether and only syncs between devices you own. Among hosted choices, Google Drive's free 15 GB is shared with Gmail and Photos, Proton's free plan includes up to 5 GB of Drive, and IDrive's Basic plan is 10 GB free. The trade-off is that all the free hosted plans cap space well below pCloud's lifetime tiers, so a large archive costs a subscription or a server you run. Stay with pCloud if you already own a lifetime plan and your storage needs are stable.
