Verdict:Klaviyo's free plan is tight: 250 active profiles and 500 email sends a month, and going over can stop you sending until you upgrade or the cycle resets. Its paid price is not listed as a flat number, which makes budgeting harder than it should be. Leave if you are a small store or newsletter hitting that ceiling, or if you pay for ecommerce depth you do not use. Brevo is the easiest step: 300 emails a day on its free plan means roughly 9,000 a month if you spread them, though the daily cap bites on launch days. MailerLite gives 2,500 emails a month to 250 subscribers and is the calmer editor. Omnisend targets the same ecommerce shops with identical free limits, so it is the closest like-for-like swap, but its paid price is only shown as a three-month promotion. If cost per contact is the real problem at scale, listmonk (AGPL-3.0) and Mautic (GPL-3.0) remove the per-profile meter entirely, at the price of running servers, a sending provider and your own deliverability. The trade-off that matters: Klaviyo's strength is store data feeding segments and flows, and none of these replicate that wiring without extra setup. Test migration and deliverability before you commit to any of them.

Good fit if

  • You mostly send newsletters and a few automations (MailerLite is the pick)
  • You run an online store and want a similar product (Omnisend is the pick)
  • You have a developer and a large list (listmonk is the pick)

Not ideal if

  • You rely on Klaviyo features or integrations that these tools do not replicate

Klaviyo today: Free (250 active profiles and 500 email sends per month) (Klaviyo pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Why people look for Klaviyo alternatives

Klaviyo's free plan stops at 250 active profiles and 500 emails a month, plus $5 of mobile messages and $5 of Composer usage. Past those limits the FAQ says sending may pause or stop until the next billing cycle or until you upgrade. Paid tiers are priced through a calculator rather than a flat list price, so the bill depends on your profile count and message volume, which is hard to predict early.

Brevo

Compared with Klaviyo: Free plan allows 300 emails a day with no time limit, whereas Klaviyo's free tier stops at 500 sends a month and 250 profiles. You get a less store-focused toolset but lower entry cost.

Price: Free (300 emails per day, no time limit) (Brevo pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Web API. Proprietary.

Best for: Small senders who outgrow 500 emails a month.

MailerLite

Compared with Klaviyo: Free for 250 subscribers and 2,500 emails a month, a bigger send allowance than Klaviyo's free 500. You give up Klaviyo's depth in ecommerce segmentation but gain a simpler, cheaper editor.

Price: Free (250 subscribers, 2,500 emails per month); paid from $12 per month, billed monthly (stated as starting price in the pricing FAQ) (MailerLite pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Web browser. Proprietary SaaS.

Best for: Newsletters and simple automations.

Worth knowing: Yearly billing saves 10%.

Omnisend

Compared with Klaviyo: Free plan covers 250 contacts and 500 emails a month, matching Klaviyo's limits, and is built for the same ecommerce use case. Paid pricing is only shown as a first-three-months promotion, so confirm cost before switching.

Price: Free (250 contacts, 500 emails per month) (Omnisend pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Web. Proprietary.

Best for: Shops wanting a like-for-like swap.

listmonk

Compared with Klaviyo: Open-source under AGPL-3.0 and free to self-host, so no per-profile pricing like Klaviyo. You supply Postgres and an SMTP sender, and lose Klaviyo's store integrations and prebuilt flows.

Price: Free (Self-hosted and free; needs Postgres and your own SMTP or sending service) (listmonk pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Linux, macOS, Windows, FreeBSD, Docker. AGPL-3.0 (open source).

Project activity: 24k GitHub stars · latest release v7.0.0-beta.1 (Oct 20, 2026) · last commit Oct 27, 2026

Best for: Technical teams with high volume.

Worth knowing: Sending costs depend on the SMTP provider you connect.

Mautic

Compared with Klaviyo: GPL-3.0 marketing automation you can self-host without a per-contact bill, unlike Klaviyo. Expect more setup and upkeep, and no managed ecommerce integrations out of the box.

Price: Free (free open-source software; hosted version has a 14-day trial) (Mautic pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Web browser, Self-hosted. GPL-3.0 (open source).

Project activity: 10.9k GitHub stars · latest release 7.2.2 (Oct 26, 2026) · last commit Oct 27, 2026

Best for: Teams needing automation without vendor fees.

Worth knowing: No hosted prices shown on the site.

ActiveCampaign

Compared with Klaviyo: No free plan, only a 14-day trial, with Starter, Plus, Pro and Enterprise tiers priced by contact count. You gain deeper general automation and CRM tools than Klaviyo's ecommerce focus, but lose the free entry tier.

Price: See pricing page (ActiveCampaign pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Mailchimp

Compared with Klaviyo: Free plan covers 250 contacts and 500 sends a month, close to Klaviyo's free tier, and paid Essentials was shown at $13 a month as a 12-month promotion. Easier to set up, with less of Klaviyo's ecommerce segmentation.

Price: Free (250 contacts, 500 sends per month or 250 per day, 1 seat, 1 audience) (Mailchimp pricing, checked 2026-10-22).
