Verdict:Leave Grok if its limits or its $30 a month SuperGrok price are the problem. The free tier is $0 but xAI does not publish exact caps, and reviewers have reported quota changes, so you cannot plan around it. Most readers searching this are comparing plain chat assistants, and the free plans from ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini cover that at no cost. Gemini's paid entry tier is $4.99 a month and Le Chat Pro is $14.99, both well under SuperGrok. Pick ChatGPT when you want the most apps and plugins around you, Claude for long writing and reading jobs, and Copilot if you already pay for Microsoft 365, since its higher usage ships with the $9.99 Personal plan. Ollama is the answer for people who hate quotas: it is MIT licensed and runs on your own machine, though you trade a hosted frontier model for whatever your hardware can run. The one real trade-off is the X link. Grok's main pitch is access to posts and trends on X and none of these alternatives is built around it, so weigh that before switching if it is why you use Grok. If you only chat, brainstorm or write, you lose little by moving to a free plan elsewhere and keeping the $30.
