Good fit if

  • You want daily research summaries with sources (Genspark is the pick)
  • You live inside Google services (Gemini app is the pick)
  • You use Windows and Edge all day (Microsoft Copilot is the pick)
  • You want a non-US provider (Le Chat is the pick)

Not ideal if

  • You need paid-tier features, uptime guarantees or support that these free plans leave out

An AI search engine answers your question in a paragraph with sources, instead of giving you ten links, and the free tiers are worth using as long as you know what they limit. Genspark offers a free plan with daily credits; third-party guides put it at about 100 a day, but the vendor page returned an error to us. The big chat assistants all have free plans that can search the web, including ChatGPT at $0 a month, Gemini with a Google account, Microsoft Copilot with lower usage than its paid tier, Le Chat, and Grok with undisclosed caps. Because xAI does not publish Grok's exact limits, treat it as best effort. Choose by what you ask. For quick factual lookups with citations, any of the six does the job. For long research tasks, the free allowance runs out fastest, so spread the heavy questions across tools. Always click through to the cited source before relying on a number, because generated summaries can misquote a page. The trade-off is privacy and tracking: signed-in assistants keep your history, whereas a traditional search box does not need an account at all.
