Verdict:Leave Speechify when you want to generate voice for content rather than listen to documents on a phone. Speechify's free plan is limited to text-to-speech, 1.5x speed and 10 robotic voices, and its Premium plan is $29 a month on monthly billing. For personal reading, the cheapest move is a local engine. Piper runs fully offline under GPL-3.0 and costs nothing, but it has no app or browser extension, so you set it up yourself. Kokoro is an open-weight model under Apache-2.0 that a developer can script for batch narration. When you need a cloud API, Google Cloud Text-to-Speech gives 1M free characters a month for Neural2 voices, though a billing account is required. For finished videos and product narration, ElevenLabs offers more natural voices; its free tier gives 10,000 credits a month, but a commercial licence appears to start on the paid Starter plan. Fish Audio's free plan gives 8,000 credits a month, with a 500-character limit per generation, which fits short ad reads. Leave Speechify if you only need voice output for a few clips. Stay if you read long documents by ear every day and value its app.

Why people look for Speechify alternatives

Speechify's free plan is limited to speeds up to 1.5x, 10 robotic-sounding voices and text-to-speech only. The natural voices sit behind Premium, shown at $29 a month on a monthly toggle: 1000+ voices in 60+ languages, 5x listening speed, Scan & Listen, AI summaries and chat, and cloud integrations with Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive. A yearly toggle advertises a 60% saving, but gives no yearly figure.
