Sophos alternatives: Microsoft Defender Antivirus, Microsoft Defender for Business, ClamAV, Wazuh and 2 more. Prices and licenses checked October 22, 2026.

Verdict:Sophos sells two quite different things, endpoint protection and firewalls, so the alternative depends on which you are leaving. The endpoint page publishes no prices, only a 30-day trial, which makes budgeting awkward for small teams. For Windows machines, the first thing to try is what you already have: Microsoft Defender Antivirus is built into Windows, and for a managed fleet, Defender for Business adds a console and detection at $3 per user a month billed yearly. The compromise is that it works best in a Microsoft environment and gives you less support for mixed fleets. ClamAV fits servers that scan files and mail but is not an endpoint suite. Wazuh adds monitoring and compliance checks across Windows, Linux and macOS at no licence cost, though it needs an engineer to run it and is not a blocking product on its own. If your Sophos is a firewall, OPNsense and pfSense Community Edition both run on hardware you choose and cost nothing in licences; OPNsense has the more modern interface and pfSense the longer track record. Both mean you lose the tight link between Sophos firewall and endpoint agents. Whatever you pick, export your firewall rules and exclusions first and test on one site or department before committing.

Sophos today: See pricing page (Sophos pricing, checked 2026-10-22).
Sophos lists no prices on its endpoint security page. You start a free trial or follow a How to buy route, including AWS Marketplace. The product is layered: EDR adds threat hunting and response to the base endpoint product, XDR extends EDR, and MDR is a separate optional service for 24/7 expert oversight, so each added capability is another item to price with a partner or the vendor.
Compared with Sophos: Built into Windows at no extra licence cost, so many small offices need nothing more. You lose Sophos's central console and firewall integration, and it covers Windows only.
Price: Free (built into Windows) (Microsoft Defender Antivirus pricing, checked 2026-10-22).
Platforms and license: Windows. Proprietary.
Best for: Windows machines with basic protection.
Worth knowing: Windows only; central management needs a paid Microsoft product.
Compared with Sophos: Adds a management console and EDR for $3 per user a month billed yearly, with a 30-day trial. Sophos publishes no prices on its endpoint page, so the cost is easier to plan, but it fits Microsoft shops best.

Worth knowing: Scanner and signature updates only; no central console or behavioural EDR.
Compared with Sophos: Free open-source agents for Windows, Linux and macOS that watch for intrusions, file changes and compliance gaps. Not a prevention product like Sophos Endpoint, and it needs someone to run and tune it.
