Verdict:Podium bundles texting, review requests and a shared inbox for local businesses, so most people who leave it are paying for one of those three things and not using the others. Start by listing which one you actually use. If the job is collecting Google reviews, Google Business Profile handles the listing and review side for free, and you lose the text-message inbox. If your reviews need to live on a public review site, Trustpilot has a free plan, though its focus is its own review pages rather than local texting. Teams that want to keep texting but run it themselves should look at Plivo, a developer SMS API with a free trial, and build the flows and compliance on top. That is more work and you own the risk. Chatwoot is the open-source option when the inbox matters most: you self-host it and connect channels, but review requests are not built in. GatherUp is the paid pick for review-first workflows and offers no two-way SMS inbox. The concrete trade-off is that every alternative here gives up part of Podium's all-in-one flow, so count which features your staff touch each day before moving. Keep Podium if its messaging inbox is the thing your team opens first.

Why people look for Podium alternatives

Podium publishes no plans or prices: its pricing page says plans are designed to fit your business and sends you to the sales team. Support, onboarding and customer success managers are included in every plan, but which product features each plan covers is not spelled out. The AI Employee assistant is a separate add-on to any plan, so the total cannot be worked out without a quote.

Google Business Profile

Compared with Podium: Free listing and review management in Google Business Profile. It answers reviews and keeps the map listing current, but it has no text-message inbox or automated review requests, the two things Podium is built around.

Price: Free (Free to create and list a business; includes replying to customer reviews) (Google Business Profile pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Web browser. Proprietary (free service).

Best for: Google reviews on a zero budget.

Trustpilot

Compared with Podium: Review invitations and a public review page, with a free plan. It handles review collection only and will not run your customer texting or shared inbox the way Podium does.

Price: Free (50 review invitations per month, claimed company profile, a small selection of tools); paid from $99 per month per domain, billed annually (Starter) (Trustpilot pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Web browser. Proprietary SaaS.

Best for: Public review pages for a brand.

Worth knowing: Plus is from $319 and Premium from $799 per month per domain billed annually. Enterprise is quote-based.

Chatwoot

Compared with Podium: Open-source shared inbox for chat and messaging channels that you can self-host with no licence cost. You gain control and lose the built-in review requests and local texting that Podium includes.

Price: Free (Hacker plan: 2 agents, 500 conversations/month, live chat only, 30 days retention); paid from $19 per agent/month, billed monthly (Startups) (Chatwoot pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Price: Free ($10 free trial credit, no credit card required) (Plivo pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Web API. Proprietary.

Best for: Teams building custom texting flows.

GatherUp

Compared with Podium: Paid review generation and listing management aimed at local businesses, the closest like-for-like swap for Podium's review requests. It drops the two-way SMS inbox, so you keep reviews and lose conversations.

Price: Paid from $99 per month per location, billed monthly (Small Business) (GatherUp pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Web browser. Proprietary SaaS.

Best for: Review-first local marketing.

NiceJob

Compared with Podium: Published pricing: Starter $75 per month, Pro $125, with a 14-day trial and no contracts. Podium's pricing page is not itemised the same way, so NiceJob is easier to budget for.

Price: Paid from $75 per month (Starter; Pro is $125) (NiceJob pricing, checked 2026-10-25).

Birdeye

Compared with Podium: Reputation and messaging platform with quote-based pricing set by your number of locations. No plan names or prices are published, so expect a sales conversation, as with Podium.
