GraphPad Prism alternatives: jamovi, JASP, R, Orange and 1 more. Prices and licenses checked October 23, 2026.

Verdict:GraphPad Prism is paid software, and the cheapest route is a monthly subscription at $50, with Annual Academic at $260 per year and Annual Student at $142. Academic group plans exist and some universities distribute licenses themselves, so check your institution before paying. People look for alternatives when they leave academia, cannot get a site license, or want analysis they can repeat in a script. For point-and-click work, jamovi and JASP are the closest free tools: both are free, open and built for standard tests, and JASP adds Bayesian analyses. R is the powerful choice and the one that asks the most of you, since you write code and make your own graphs. Orange suits visual data exploration and Octave suits numerical scripting, but neither is a biostatistics package in the way Prism is. The trade-off is graphing: Prism is built around publication-quality graphs and curve fitting from a data table, and none of these matches that workflow without extra effort. Stay if your lab already pays and your colleagues share Prism files. Leave if the subscription is the barrier or you want your analysis in code.

GraphPad Prism today: Paid from $50 per month (monthly subscription); Annual Academic $260 per year and Annual Student $142 per year (GraphPad Prism pricing, checked 2026-10-22).
Prism is subscription-first: Standard is $260 a year and Pro $360 for one person, $50 or $75 a month for short projects, and $142 for students. Teams of 2 to 25 pay $520 or $720 a year. Perpetual licenses cost $3,200 corporate and $1,600 academic, get no upgrades or guaranteed future OS support, and the page does not recommend them. Licenses cover Windows and Mac only, on two devices per user.
Compared with GraphPad Prism: Free statistical spreadsheet powered by R, with desktop and free cloud versions. You get a point-and-click interface for standard tests, but not Prism's graph-first workflow and its curve-fitting dialogs.
Price: Free (Free statistical spreadsheet powered by R, with a free cloud option) (jamovi pricing, checked 2026-10-22).
Platforms and license: Desktop, Cloud (browser). Free and open source (LICENSE.md in the repository, not read) (open source).
Project activity: 799 GitHub stars · latest release v2.7.30 (May 23, 2026) · last commit Oct 26, 2026
Best for: Point-and-click statistics for free.
Compared with GraphPad Prism: AGPL-3.0 and free on Windows, macOS and Linux, with classical and Bayesian analyses, APA-formatted tables and OSF integration. Less focused on publication graphs than Prism.
Price: Free (Free open-source project supported by the University of Amsterdam; classical and Bayesian analyses) (JASP pricing, checked 2026-10-22).
Platforms and license: Windows, macOS, Linux. AGPL-3.0 (open source).
Project activity: 1k GitHub stars · latest release v0.99.0 (Oct 21, 2026) · last commit Oct 27, 2026
Best for: Bayesian and classical tests with clean output.
Compared with GraphPad Prism: GNU GPL, free on Windows, macOS and Linux. The most capable option and the steepest: you write code instead of filling in dialogs, and you build graphs yourself.
Price: Free (Free software under the GNU General Public License) (R pricing, checked 2026-10-22).
Platforms and license: Windows, macOS, Linux. GNU GPL (open source).
Best for: Reproducible analysis in code.
Worth knowing: A language and environment, not a point-and-click app; most people pair it with an editor or a GUI such as jamovi.
Compared with GraphPad Prism: GPL-3.0 or later and free on Windows, macOS and Linux. Visual widget workflows for data visualization and machine learning; it is a data-mining tool, not a biostatistics package like Prism.
Price: Free (Free and open source; donations requested) (Orange pricing, checked 2026-10-22).
Platforms and license: Windows, macOS, Linux. GPL-3.0 or later (open source).
Project activity: 5.7k GitHub stars · latest release 3.40.0 (Dec 20, 2025) · last commit Oct 26, 2026
Best for: Visual exploration of datasets.
Worth knowing: Widget-based visual workflows for data visualization and machine learning, no coding required.
Compared with GraphPad Prism: Free software under the GNU GPL on Windows, macOS, Linux and BSD. A numerical computing language similar to MATLAB, so you script analyses and plots yourself.
Price: Free (Free software under the GNU GPL; no price stated on the page) (GNU Octave pricing, checked 2026-10-23).
Platforms and license: Windows, macOS, Linux, BSD. GPL-3.0-or-later (open source).
Best for: Scripted numerical analysis.
Compared with GraphPad Prism: Minitab publishes no prices: its pricing page asks you to fill in a form. A long-established statistics package, so plan on a quote request instead of Prism's published $260 yearly Standard plan.
Price: See pricing page (Minitab Statistical Software pricing, checked 2026-10-22).
Compared with GraphPad Prism: Individual license is listed at USD 940 per year, Home is for personal use only, and a perpetual option exists. A programming environment for analysis, well above Prism's $260 yearly plan.
Price: Paid from $940 per per year, Individual license (pricing page lists 'USD 940' with Simulink and add-ons; taxes excluded) (MATLAB pricing, checked 2026-10-23).
Docs-only for jamovi, JASP, R, Orange, GNU Octave: we did not install or run them, so feature claims come from vendor pages and we did not test import from GraphPad Prism. Vendor prices and free limits change; confirm on the linked pricing page before you buy or migrate.
