Free video chat works well until you hit a time limit, and the limits differ enough to decide the winner. Google Meet and Microsoft Teams free plans allow 100 participants and group meetings up to 60 minutes. Zoom Basic and Webex Free cut meetings at 40 minutes with the same 100-person cap. Jitsi Meet needs no account, but the public meet.jit.si server now limits meetings to 95 minutes from October 9, 2026, and you can self-host it to remove the cap. Signal gives one-to-one and group calls with no ads, but only between people who installed it. For a quick family call, any of these works. For a recurring team meeting, a 40-minute cut-off is annoying and you should lean to the 60-minute services or host Jitsi yourself. Another trade-off is account friction: the big names ask participants to sign in or install an app, while Jitsi opens from a link. Look at the limit lines below and pick based on how long your calls really run, how many people join, and whether everyone already has an account.
