Good fit if

  • You want a quick song with vocals to share (Suno is the pick)
  • You need a clean commercial licence and own a GPU (ACE-Step is the pick)
  • You want instrumental scores and accept credit lines (AIVA is the pick)
  • You are researching, not releasing (MusicGen (AudioCraft) is the pick)

Not ideal if

  • You need paid-tier features, uptime guarantees or support that these free plans leave out

Free AI music generators are free to play with and often not free to release, so read the rights line before you upload anything to a streaming service. Suno gives 50 credits a day on its free plan but no monthly song downloads and no commercial rights, and its Pro plan at $8 a month adds 20 downloads and commercial use. AIVA's free plan allows 3 downloads a month with tracks up to 3 minutes, but AIVA keeps the copyright and requires credit. The other route is to run a model yourself: ACE-Step is Apache-2.0 and its README says it fits in 8GB of VRAM after a May 2025 update, while MusicGen's code is MIT but its released weights are CC-BY-NC 4.0, which rules out commercial use. Stable Audio and Udio both mention free tiers, but their pricing pages gave us no numbers, so confirm limits on their sites. If you want finished songs with vocals to share with friends, a hosted free plan is the fastest path. If you want background tracks for your own video and need a clean licence, self-hosting ACE-Step avoids the credit meter, at the cost of a GPU and some Python setup.
