Verdict:Brex already has a free tier. Essentials is $0 per user, capped at two entities (one global) and one local card program, and Premium adds multiple expense policies and live budgets at $12 per user per month. So the reason to leave is usually not price but fit: you want a bank account elsewhere, you are outgrowing the entity limit, or you do not want your cards and cash with the same vendor. Ramp is the closest comparison, with a $0 plan and unlimited cards, but its free tier restricts accounting sync to QuickBooks Online and Xero, so if you use another ledger you will find yourself in the Plus plan at $15 per user plus a platform fee. Mercury, Relay and Novo are banking-first: they cost little or nothing a month and suit companies that mostly need accounts and a card, though none of them replicates Brex's policy and budget layer. BILL Spend & Expense is another free route if you already pay bills there, with the caveat that credit lines are not guaranteed. Zoho Expense is the pick when you only need expense reports and already hold a card. The cost of switching is the cards themselves: reissuing them, updating subscriptions and reconnecting the accounting feed takes real time, so run the new card in parallel for a month before closing the old programme.

Why people look for Brex alternatives

Brex Essentials is $0 per user per month but limited to up to two entities (one global entity) and one local card program. Multiple expense policies, live budgets, multi-entity support across the US and abroad and customizable ERP and HRIS integrations need Premium at $12 per user per month; Enterprise and Smart Card are custom-priced. Business account and bill pay fees sit on a separate fee schedule, and the page states no eligibility criteria.
