Verdict:Turnitin is licensed to institutions, not individuals. Its help centre says it does not sell Feedback Studio or Similarity subscriptions to individuals, and it points them to iThenticate with credit-based pricing, so there is no public price to beat. That makes this page mostly about students and independent writers who want to check their own work before handing it in, plus small organisations that have no institutional licence. Quetext is the most direct free option: 1,000 words at $0 for plagiarism and AI detection, then $14.99 a month for 100,000 words. Sapling covers AI-text detection only, free for the first 2,000 characters per check. Grammarly and ProWritingAid are editing tools where plagiarism is a paid extra; ProWritingAid sells plagiarism checks separately on every plan. Copyleaks offers both checks and is the closest to Turnitin's scope, so check its pricing page. The trade-off is that none of these will reproduce your school's Turnitin score, because each tool compares against its own sources. Use them to find uncited passages and obvious AI phrasing, not to predict a grade. If your instructor uses Turnitin, ask whether a draft check is available.

Why people look for Turnitin alternatives

Turnitin does not sell Feedback Studio or Similarity subscriptions to individuals. Access comes through an institution, which means students, freelancers and writers cannot buy a check on their own. Individuals are pointed to iThenticate, which uses credit-based pricing instead of a monthly plan. The company publishes no price list for institutional licences, so schools negotiate access directly.

Quetext
