Verdict:Splashtop is a hosted remote-access service whose Solo plan costs $72 a year, and it is often picked for fast cross-platform sessions. Leave it if you need a cheap free route for occasional sessions or you want to avoid a hosted relay altogether. AnyDesk and TeamViewer are the direct hosted rivals; AnyDesk is the one to test first if you only need a free personal tier, while TeamViewer covers more device types for teams with budget. RustDesk moves the relay onto your own server, which is the real difference from Splashtop: you control the data path and carry the maintenance. NoMachine and Remmina fit a narrower job. NoMachine is for steady sessions to machines you own, and Remmina is a Linux client that connects to RDP and VNC servers but does not host sessions for others. The trade-off to weigh is clear: moving to a self-hosted option buys control and removes the subscription, but it also removes the support you would otherwise get from the vendor, and the setup takes more time.

Why people look for Splashtop alternatives

Splashtop's Solo plan is for one individual user only. Pro, at $8.25 per user per month billed annually, is the first plan with multi-monitor support, user role management and session recording, and lets up to 3 users connect to one computer. Performance ($13) adds 4:4:4 color and 240 FPS, while SSO, SIEM logging and cloud recording are Enterprise-only with custom quotes. Remote Support (SOS) starts at $22 per month per concurrent tech and covers 10 or 300 managed computers per license.

TeamViewer

Compared with Splashtop: Proprietary remote control sold on annual subscriptions with no free commercial tier. Compared with Splashtop's Solo at $72 a year, TeamViewer costs more per seat but covers more device types.

Price: See pricing page (TeamViewer pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android. Proprietary.

Best for: Mixed Windows, Mac and mobile support teams.

AnyDesk

Compared with Splashtop: Proprietary client with a free personal tier and a paid commercial plan. Cheaper to try than Splashtop, but commercial licensing requires checking the terms.

Price: Free (Free for personal use only, with limited features and support; professional use needs a paid licence); paid from $28.9 per month, billed yearly (Solo, 1 concurrent connection) (AnyDesk pricing, checked 2026-10-25).

Platforms and license: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS. Proprietary.

Best for: Trying remote support before buying.

Worth knowing: Standard is $49.90 a month (1 connection, up to 20 users); extra connections are $44.90 add-ons. A 20% discount applies to the first year only. Prices exclude taxes.

RustDesk

Compared with Splashtop: AGPL-3.0 remote desktop with a free self-hosted server. Unlike Splashtop's hosted relay, you run the infrastructure, which gives control but costs your time.

Platforms and license: Windows, macOS, Linux. Proprietary.

Best for: Remote work on your own machines.

Worth knowing: Personal Edition has a free trial; the NoMachine Player used to connect to your installations is free. Both editions require a NoMachine Network subscription.

Remmina

Compared with Splashtop: GPL-2.0-or-later client for RDP, VNC and SSH on Linux. It is a viewer, not a hosted service, so it replaces the client side only and needs a server on the other end.

Price: Free (Remmina pricing, checked 2026-10-22).

Platforms and license: Linux. GPL-2.0-or-later (open source).

Project activity: 2.6k GitHub stars · latest release v1.2.30 (May 20, 2018) · last commit Feb 8, 2026

Worth knowing: A client for RDP, VNC and SSH, not a hosted relay service.
