Verdict:Confluence Free covers 10 users and 2 GB, which is generous, and Standard starts at $5.78 per user per month at the page's default team size. The pressure to leave is less about the free tier and more about Atlassian's list-price update, which its FAQ dates to October 13, 2026 PT for Standard, Premium and Enterprise. If your team is under 10 people and stays there, the cheapest answer may be to stay on Free. If you do leave, decide first whether you want hosted or self-hosted. Hosted means Notion, whose free plan limits blocks for shared workspaces, or Outline, which has no free cloud tier. Self-hosted means BookStack (MIT, the simplest), Docmost (AGPL-3.0, closest to the spaces-and-pages model, with a $6 Business tier) or XWiki (LGPL-2.1, the most capable and the most work). Self-hosting trades a seat price for admin time, so count the hours of someone who will patch and back up a server. Before migrating, export a few real spaces and check how macros, page history and permissions come across, because the pricing pages do not tell you. Pilot one team for a month, and keep the Confluence export until the new wiki has survived a real audit request.

Confluence today: Free (Free plan for 10 users with 2 GB of file storage); paid from $5.78 per user/month (Standard, at the page's default team size) (Confluence pricing, checked 2026-10-22).
Confluence's free plan stops at 10 users and 2 GB of storage, so any larger team has to pay per user. Standard is listed at $5.78 per user per month and Premium at $11.16, and Atlassian bills the tier that matches your user count. Unlimited storage, 24/7 Premium Support and the 99.9% uptime SLA come only with Premium. Enterprise is quoted, sold annually only, and is aimed at sites above 800 users. Costs therefore step up as headcount grows.
Atlassian's pricing FAQ lists Confluence Standard, Premium and Enterprise among the cloud plans getting a list-price update on October 13, 2026 PT. It covers new purchases, renewals and upgrades, and quotes generated before that date are honored at the old price until they expire. (Confluence: what changed)

Compared with Confluence: Outline is a fast wiki, but its cloud has no free tier: $10 a month covers 1 to 10 members, a flat price that undercuts per-user tools for tiny teams. Self-hosted Community is free with limited features, and its BSL license is source-available.
